A High Court sitting in Jalingo on Monday stopped the Taraba State House of Assembly from acting on list of commissioner nominees sent for clearance by the deputy governor of the state, Alhaji Garba Umar.
Acting on an application by Governor Danbaba Suntai, Justice A.I Andenyagtso restrained the state law makers from “taking any action” on the list sent by Umar.
“The defendants are hereby retrained from carrying out any action on the list of commissioners sent by the deputy governor purportedly acting as governor of Taraba State seeking their approval for appointment as commissioners,” Justice Andenyagtso ordered.
Umar, who has had a running battle with Suntai over control of the reins of power, had late last week sent a letter to the state law makers seeking their confirmation of six nominees as commissioners.
Pointblanknews.com gathered that the court order obtained by Suntai may be a strategy to stop Umar from gaining control of the executive arm.
Late last week, a pro- Umar law maker Josiah Kente, was appointed Speaker of the State Assembly to replace Haruna Tsokwa, who slumped and died.
Recuperating Governor Suntai had a few months ago dissolved the State Executive Committee. The sack came on the heels of Suntai’s return to Nigeria after a 10-month medical leave in Germany and the United States after surviving an air crash.
