by Our Reporter

The Delta government has told authorities of universities in the state to close down satellite campuses of universities in the state before Aug. 30.

The directive was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Asaba by Mrs Elizabeth Ijabor, Director of the Inspectorate Division of the Delta State Ministry of Higher Education.

The order, said to be in line with the directive of the National Universities Commission (NUC) said that inter-state satellite campuses were illegal.

“It is hereby announced for the information of the public, especially operators of satellite campuses and various outreach centres in Delta State that the NUC has banned all inter-state satellite programmes.

“Inter-state programmes, campuses and study centres are therefore illegal. Operators of such centres are by this statement expected to relocate all programmes to the home states of the universities on or before Aug. 30, 2012,” it said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that satellite campuses of various universities in the country abound in Asaba, Warri and other major towns in Delta.

The outreach centres are located mainly in secondary and primary schools in the cities. (NAN)
