A group of Delta State indigenes in South Africa led by Comrade Progress Omo-Agege and Comrade Nnabuife Michael have condemned the attack on the convoy of the Delta State governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, by youths of Oghara during the governor’s visit to the home town of ex-Governor, Chief James Ibori.
The group in a release made available to Urhobo Times stated that the action of by the youths was barbaric and insulting to youths of the State whom they referred to as law abiding and obedient to the tenets of society.
“Such act by the Oghara youths is very unlike Deltans who have since embraced dialogue as an avenue for peaceful co-existence with one another. We are appealing to all stakeholders in Oghara to embrace peace and seek dialogue as an avenue towards redressing their grievances,” the group stated.
Speaking further, the group said, “The news of the attack on the governor’s convoy came to us with utmost shock coupled with the fact that he has been trying to mend bridges across the nooks and cranies of the State in fostering a one united Delta State. We appeal to the governor to temper justice with mercy and see the youths as his children.”
It will be recalled that, Dr. Uduaghan had gone to the community to sympathize with the ex-Governor’s family, who recently lost their one of their own, Andrew Ibori. On his arrival, Uduaghan was commended after being received by the Unugbroghodo of Oghara Kingdom, Chief William Ibori, who is also an elder brother to ex-Governor Ibori.
