by Our Reporter

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Yakubu Dogara, has
condoled with the governor and people of Sokoto State over the deathý of
the state commissioner of science and technology, Nasiru Zarummai, who
died Friday nightý.

A statement issued by the special adviser to the speaker on Media & Public
Affairs, Turaki Hassan, explained that Speaker Dogara led some members of
the House of Representatives on a condolence visit to the governor of
Sokoto State, Gov. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal on Sunday night, where he
expressed grief at the loss of the commissioner.

While praying that God grants the governor and the family of the deceased
the fortitude to bear the loss, he recalled that the commissioner was a
close associate of the governor and someone instrumental to his election
success.

The Speaker said: “We are here as a family to pay you a condolence visit.
The late commissioner for science and technology was like a brother to us.
He’s someone we all know was very close to you. We know him and to some
extent, we know the role he played, even during your campaign.

“So for us, it’s really a loss to all of us, not just to you and the
people of Sokoto State, and we have come to share with you, this moment of
grief and to say that whether in joy we’re together, and in grief we’ll be
together, and to pray that whatever is left behind God will bless it, and
God will grant you and the entire people of Sokoto the fortitude to bear
this irreparable loss.”

Responding, Gov. Tambuwal thanked the Speaker and his entourage, saying
his cabinet has lost an irreplaceable, honest and hardworking member.

“Nasiru Zarummai, to be honest, was one of the very best we had in the
cabinet; very, very, cerebral, very deep, even though young and very, very
dynamic, very aspiring and very honest and straightforward. On all issues
that we’ve had cause to discuss whether on public or private issues,
Nasiru always stated his own position and you’ll see that whenever he
addresses you; he’ll give you that respect, but he’ll tell you the truth.
If I say that I’ve not lost one of my most dependable lieutenants in the
cabinet; I’ll be lying.”

He continued, “We have lost a very intelligent career in him. It is our
hope and prayer that God who gave us Nasiru and has taken him away will
forgive his sins and should give us a replacement amongst the likes of
people that we have working with us.”
