The Kano Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Kannywood actress Samha Inuwa over an alleged act of naira mutilation, following the circulation of a viral video on social media.
In a statement on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, the Commission said Inuwa was taken into custody after a video surfaced showing her allegedly using Nigerian currency notes to wipe mucus from her nose—an act prohibited under the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act.
According to the EFCC, the video triggered widespread public outrage, prompting the Commission to launch an immediate investigation. “Following the circulation of the video, operatives of the Commission swung into action, traced the suspect, and effected her arrest,” the EFCC said.
The anti-graft agency noted that Inuwa is currently being held at its Kano detention facility, where she is assisting investigators. “She will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations,” the Commission added.
The EFCC reiterated its warning to the public against the abuse, defacement, or mutilation of the naira, stressing that the law prescribes penalties for anyone found guilty. “The Commission will not hesitate to enforce the law, regardless of status or profession,” it said.
The arrest adds to a growing list of recent EFCC actions targeting the misuse of Nigeria’s currency, as the agency intensifies efforts to uphold the integrity of the naira.
