The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Ibrahim Lamorde, has called for regular anti-corruption training for military personnel in the country.

The call is contained in a statement signed by the Acting Head of Media and Publicity of the commission, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja.

The statement said that the chairman made the call at the EFCC Academy in Karu, Abuja, when he received members of the Senior Command Course 35 of the Command and Staff College (CSC), Jaji near Kaduna.

According to the chairman, the training is necessary as part of efforts to curb the menace of corruption in the country.

Lamorde, represented by the commandant of the academy, Mr Ayo Olowonihi, briefed the CSC members led by Air Commodore James Illiyasu about the responsibilities of the academy.

He said that one of the responsibilities of the academy was to execute training programmes and courses to enhance capacity development for the EFCC.

“Part of the responsibility of the academy is to recommend training for financial, non-financial institutions and other stakeholders,’’ he stated.

The EFCC boss also explained that the commission’s training runs for 18 months at the end of which the cadets undergo rigorous studies and physical exercises before their mentorship in various sections of the commission.

The training centres on advance fee fraud, economics, governance, bank fraud, counter-terrorism and general investigations.

“We plan to expand the academy’s programmes to accommodate the training needs of other law enforcement agencies in the West African region,” Lamorde said.

Illiyasu expresseed his delight with the hospitality shown to his team, noting that they were at the academy to deepen their understanding of the operations of the EFCC.
