Counsel to Social Media Activist, Martins Vincent Otse aka VeryDarkMan, Deji Adeyanju says he is yet to be told by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) why his client was arrested like a fugitive and detained for five days without a court order.
The lawyer said there will be no moment of silence until answers are provided.
In a telephone interview with our correspondent on Friday, Mr Adeyanju said, “Till now, the EFCC has not told us why VDM was arrested in such a Gestapo manner as if he was a wanted dare-devil criminal. No interrogation, he wasn’t charged in court. They just kept him there, saying he was under investigation. We asked: What were they investigating him for? There was no response”
Adeyanju dismissed the charges that were flying all over social media, saying, “If there were charges, who should know first? The lawyers, of course. I am telling you that we were told nothing. After waiting for them to tell us, or better still, charge him to court, and none of the above happened, we applied for his bail, and he was released to us. That’s all” There’s no other story.
He vowed to challenge his client’s arrest, saying, “EFCC must tell us why they arrested and unlawfully detained a Nigerian for that long. We will do the right thing. We will let Nigerians know our next step. Whether the EFCC responds to us or not, we shall act appropriately,” he added.
Meanwhile, comedian and former Big Brother Najia Housemate, Aderombi Adebayo also known as Deeone has lampooned the “Ratels” (the fans of VeryDarkMan) accusing them of pushing VDM into trouble. He warned them to be careful if they don’t want him (VDM) to return to similar situation in the future.
In a video posted on Instagram, after the release of VDM, the ex-BBNaija housemate was seen taunting the Ratels amidst
He said, “I want to warn you, Ratels, not to push VDM into trouble again! If you ignore my warning, your man will face a similar situation again.”
The comedian disclosed that the EFCC already had a prima facie case of financial crimes against him, which means he (VDM) will be taken to court soon to face trial. He advised him to prepare very well for his trial.
The comedian and VDM are not on good terms. At every opportunity, they’d go for each other’s jugular.
Even when he, at some point, lost his TikTok account, he blamed VDM and the Ratels.
These words did not go down well with the Ratels, some of whom came on social media to address the comedian.
