The Ekiti Government has directed the 16 local government councils in the state to generate N216 million in revenue before the end of December.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government Matters, Mr Sesan Adewumi, announced the revenue target to the chairmen of the caretaker committees of the councils at a meeting in Ado-Ekiti on Friday.
Adewumi said the state government was not impressed with the dwindling revenue profile of the councils.
He said the era when the 16 local governments depended solely on federal allocation was gone, adding that there was the need for them to improve on their revenue generation efforts.
The governor’s aide charged them to revitilise their revenue generating departments toward maximising the potential of the officials.
He also announced government’s rating of monthly revenue performance of the councils for the month of July, saying that Oye Local Government came first with a little over N3 million.
Adewumi said Ikere Local Government came second with N2.6 million while Ado came third with N2.4 million.
Under the new arrangement, he said government was expecting each of the councils to generate a minimum of N14 million before the end of the year. (NAN)
