Rivers State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd), has been formally invited to appear before the House of Representatives Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State Oversight for a high-level interactive session as part of ongoing legislative scrutiny following the recent declaration of a State of Emergency in the state.
The Committee, inaugurated on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, held its first official meeting today at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja.
Members reviewed initial reports and deliberated on unfolding developments since the assumption of office by the Sole Administrator.
In a move aligned with its constitutional mandate under Section 11(4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Committee resolved to summon the Sole Administrator to provide clarity and firsthand information on the current governance and security situation in Rivers State.
Chairman of the Committee and House Leader, Hon. (Prof.) Julius Ihonvbere, OON, underscored the importance of the forthcoming session, stating it would “ensure that the House exercises its oversight responsibilities with diligence, objectivity, and a commitment to national interest.”
A statement issued by the Spokesman of the House of Representatives, Akin Rotimi added, “This session is crucial to gain an accurate understanding of the current situation in Rivers State. It will guide the House in fulfilling its oversight duties and ensuring transparency in the administration of the state.
“Vice Admiral Ibas is scheduled to appear before the Committee on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at 4:00 PM, in Room 414, House of Representatives New Building, National Assembly Complex, Abuja.
” A formal invitation letter has been sent and acknowledged, with the public announcement reaffirming the Committee’s dedication to transparency and constitutional adherence in its proceedings.
” The Committee assures Nigerians of its resolve to carry out its duties with integrity and in full accordance with the law, promising that every step up taken would serve the best interest of both the people of Rivers State and the nation at large.”
