The Enugu State Caucus in the House of Representatives has officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in what they described as a collective and strategic decision to align with the progressive vision and leadership of Governor Peter Ndubisi Mbah.
Announcing the defection during plenary on Thursday, October 30, 2025, the leader of the caucus, Rt. Hon. Nnolim Nnaji, said the move was “a bold and forward-looking step” aimed at ensuring Enugu State takes its rightful place in the mainstream of national politics and governance.
Speaking with journalists shortly after plenary, Nnaji explained that the decision followed wide consultations and sober reflection among members of the caucus. He stressed that Enugu State could no longer afford to remain on the sidelines of national development when opportunities abound within the ruling party.
“For too long, our dear Enugu State has stood by while others shaped the course of our nation and benefited from opportunities that could have uplifted our people. That time is over,” Nnaji declared.
“By joining the APC, the party currently driving Nigeria’s transformation, we are connecting our people directly to the centre of national progress. This new alignment will attract more projects, create jobs, improve infrastructure, and expand empowerment opportunities for our youths and women.”
The lawmaker lauded Governor Peter Mbah for his purposeful leadership, describing him as a transformative figure who has redefined governance in Enugu State through impactful projects and visionary policies within just two years in office.
“We salute our Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, for his courage and foresight. His administration has repositioned Enugu as a model for innovation and growth, with impressive strides in education, technology, aviation, and security. Today, investors are trooping into the state because of the conducive environment his leadership has provided,” he noted.
Nnaji emphasized that the decision of the caucus was not motivated by personal or partisan considerations but by a shared commitment to advancing the collective interest of the Enugu people and ensuring that the state benefits from federal opportunities.
“As your representatives in the National Assembly, we remain committed to amplifying your voices, defending your interests, and delivering visible development to every community in Enugu State,” he assured.
In a note of optimism, the lawmaker urged residents of Enugu to support the new political direction and work together for the continued peace and progress of the state.
“Today marks the dawn of a new era for our people, one of hope, unity, and prosperity. Let us join hands to build the Enugu of our dreams, because the best days of our state are not in the past, but ahead of us,” Nnaji stated.
The defection of the Enugu Reps Caucus to the APC is widely seen as a major political milestone for the state, further consolidating Governor Mbah’s growing influence and reinforcing his administration’s drive toward inclusive development and transformation.
