Former Presidential campaign organisation spokesman, Femi Fani-Kayode, has threatened to seek legal redress against a national daily and its Managing Editor, if they do not retract and apologise over a story that suggested he was hiding from the EFCC.
The medium had reported that there was a manhunt for the ex aviation minister and quoting sources it said ” he has refused to report to the agency for interaction , all attempts by our operatives to locate the whereabouts of Mr Fani-Kayode have failed because he has not only switched off his phones, he has virtually gone underground, we will fish him out wherever he is “
Fani-Kayode had debunked the report earlier yesterday, describing it as false and a plot by the agency to set the stage for a raid of his home, a ploy he is convinced, is meant to embarass him. He said the EFCC knows his numbers and home and all they needed do is invite him.
His attorneys, Adeola Adedipe Esq and Ahmed raji and Co, said their clients would seek legal protection if the newspaper did not retract and apologise.
” to suggest via print media that our client has refused to report , gone underground or is hiding, and that you will fish him out , is to saty the least, most despicable and scandalous of our client. We take the liberty of this momentto sensitise you of the far reaching legal implications of your unguided presumptions comments , opinions and politically induced remarks about our client” the attorneys said
” You are hereby advised to retract the said comments made about our client and tender an unreserved apology to him through the same medium and any other widely read/circulated media outfit”
The letter to the media house also said ” our client reserves legal protectionby operation of law and we will be left with no prefered alternative than to enforce to seek remedies against you, if yo fail to do so within 7 days. You are advised to to enter into negotiation for damages”
