The Governing Council of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Gombe, has approved the immediate dismissal of four senior officers of the institution, including the Registrar and the College Librarian, over allegations of gross misconduct.
The officials affected by the decision are the Registrar, Alhaji Umar Bello; the College Librarian, Yusuf Aliyu; the Director of Works and Services, Muhammad Malam; and an internal member of the Governing Council, Ibrahim Shehu.
To ensure continuity in the administration of the college, the Council has appointed Mallam Haruna N. Ayuba, the most senior Deputy Registrar, as Acting Registrar with immediate effect.
The dismissals followed a series of events that began earlier in the academic session when complaints and concerns were raised by staff and students regarding alleged irregularities in the management of the college. These included claims of financial mismanagement, delayed promotions, and administrative lapses affecting both academic and infrastructural projects.
In response, the Governing Council initially suspended the officers pending investigation and requested the Federal Ministry of Education to set up a fact-finding committee to examine the allegations thoroughly.
Simultaneously, the Council established its own Investigative Committee to assess administrative conduct and review operational records, including financial documents, project approvals, and staff management practices.
After extensive interviews, document reviews, and site inspections, both committees reportedly found the officers culpable of gross misconduct, dereliction of duty, and violations of institutional regulations, which led to the Council’s decision to terminate their appointments.
According to college authorities, this decisive action reflects the institution’s commitment to upholding accountability, transparency, and good governance, and to restoring confidence among staff, students, and stakeholders.
A statement by the Acting Director of Public Relations and Protocol of the college, Dahiru Gurama, confirmed that the decision was taken during the 7th meeting of the Governing Council, held on January 31, 2026, at the headquarters of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) in Abuja.
The Governing Council emphasized that the move underscores its dedication to maintaining discipline and ensuring that no official is above the rules and regulations governing the college. It also assured all members of the institution that steps have been taken to ensure smooth administrative operations and continuity in the delivery of academic and institutional services.
