The Federal Government on Wednesday in Abuja called on professional bodies in the country to embrace human capital development to achieve the transformation aenda of the present administration.
This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Marshall Gundu, Deputy Director Press, in the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development.
The statement said that President Goodluck Jonathan made the call when he received a delegation from the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society.
It stated that the president urged professionals in the country to focus on human capital development as it remained one of the key elements of the transformation agenda of his government.
“If we can change our mindsets to embrace human capital development, which is the change the present government needs, then we would, as professionals, deliver on the expectations of the society.’’
It said that the president, represented by Mr Musa Sada, Minister of Mines and Steel Development, advised economists to look at development in terms of human capacity, citing Japan as a world power that attained its status as a result of human capital development.
Jonathan was reported to have expressed his appreciation to the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society for their unflinching support toward the development of the nation’s minerals sector.
It said that the president lauded the existing relationship between the minerals sector and the society, adding that the society should continue to act as a watch dog in the development of the sector.
The President of the society and leader of the delegation, Mr Akinola George, said that the purpose of the visit was to highlight the thinking of the society towards the development of the country.
George said that the association would provide an enabling environment with qualified professionals for the minerals and mining sectors of the economy.
