The Federal Government has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr, signifying the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government. He congratulated Muslim faithful across the country on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast, describing the period as one of spiritual renewal, self-discipline, and devotion.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Minister urged Muslims to sustain the virtues of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice, which were emphasized during the holy month.
He further called on all Nigerians, regardless of religious affiliation, to use the festive period to pray for the continued peace, unity, and prosperity of the nation. According to him, such values are essential in strengthening national cohesion and fostering harmonious coexistence among citizens.
While wishing Muslims a joyful and peaceful Eid-ul-Fitr celebration, the Minister encouraged Nigerians to celebrate responsibly and extend acts of kindness to the less privileged in society.
He reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to promoting unity, peace, and mutual understanding among the diverse people of Nigeria.
