FIRS Opens Tax Offices Weekends to Ease Filing

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has directed all tax offices to operate on weekends throughout the month of June to support taxpayers during the peak of the Companies Income Tax (CIT) season.
The directive, issued by FIRS Chairman Zacch Adedeji, is part of efforts to improve service delivery and help companies meet the June 30 deadline for filing annual tax returns.
Dare Adekanmbi, Special Adviser on Media to the FIRS chairman, disclosed this in a statement shared with pointblanknews.com on Monday.
“This is part of Adedeji’s commitment to matching the agency’s customer-centric policy with tangible action,” he said.
Under the new schedule, tax offices will open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays and 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sundays, starting from June 14 through June 29.
The management said the weekend openings are designed to “ease the process for taxpayers, enhance service delivery, and maximize tax collection during this critical period.”
A joint directive signed by the Coordinating Directors of the Large Taxpayers Group (LTG), Government and Medium Taxpayers Group (GMTG), and Emerging Taxpayers Group (ETG)—Ms Amina Ado, Dr Dick Irri, and Mr Kabir Abba—stated, “As you are aware, the month of June marks the peak of the annual Companies Income Tax (CIT) filing season, with many taxpayers whose financial year ends 31st December expected to file their tax returns by June 30.”
They added, “Management has approved extension of tax office operations to weekends for the month of June 2025.”
Since assuming office, Adedeji has led reforms aimed at transforming the FIRS from a tax-collecting agency to a service-oriented institution, making it easier for taxpayers to comply with their obligations.
