Five Killed In Maiduguri, Damaturu

Four persons were today killed in separate attacks between security forces and  Boko Haram members in Maiduguri, Borno State.

Spokesman of the Joint Task Force (JTF) Luietenat Colonel Sagir Musa said in a press statement that three suspected Boko Haram members and a civilian were killed in two separate attacks.

” A suicide bomber on a tricycle  targeted a JTF patrol vehicle and missed it. In the process, he rammed in to a moving Mercedes Benz Car and detonated an Improvised Explosive Device. The bomber instantly died, 1 civilian died, 2 others and a soldier were injured as a result of the explosion.” Musa said in a press statement.

The JTF added that ” another 2 suspected members of Boko Haram terrorists who stormed Monday Market with the intention of killing innocent citizens were encountered and killed by troops of the JTF. Additionally, 2 AK 47 rifles and 18 rounds of ammunition were recovered”

The spokesman revealed the dead bodies were deposited at the morgue while
3 injured persons have since been taken  to University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH)for treatment.

In another development in neighbouring Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State one person was also shot dead at the early hours of today by gunmen suspected to be members of Boko Haram sect, Police Commissioner in Yobe state Patrick Egbuniwe said on phone today.

“Yes one person was killed early this morning by suspected Boko Haram Terrorist, but as the JTF approached the area to recover the dead body some of the terrorist began to exchange fire but there was no casualty as the suspects fled into the bush.”
