Nigerian former First Ladies today paid a condolence visit to Dame (Dr) Patience Jonathan who recently lost her mother, Mrs. Charity Oba (Mama Sisi). The First Ladies were received in the State House, Abuja. Speaking at the event Mrs. Victoria Aguyi-Ironsi said that Dame Patience took very good care of her late mother during her life time and that death is a mystery that mortals cannot really understand.
Mrs. Aguyi-Ironsi encouraged the First Lady to continue to uphold the good works of her late mother who showed love and care to all who came across her.
The children of the late Prime Minister of Nigeria, Sir Tafawa Balewa, who represented their mother, also conveyed the condolences of the family to the first family.
Professor Uche Azikiwe, while presenting the condolence card to Dame Patience Jonathan said that African culture makes it imperative for people to sympathize with the bereaved with the hope that God Almighty will comfort them.
In her response, Dame Patience Jonathan sincerely thanked the former First Ladies for their concern and visit. She said that Mama Sisi was more than a mother to her because she was her friend, confidant and was everything and that her pain is that she was not able to show her appreciation for all the sacrifices her mother made.
She said that her mother’s death was a big loss and hoped that the Almighty would fill the vacuum it has created in her life. Dame Jonathan disclosed that the burial has been scheduled for October 31 to November 1, 2013.
