Former Anambra State Governor and ex-Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, has reportedly been arrested at his residence, Justice Mohammed Bello Road in Abuja.
According to sources close to the Minister, Ngige was on Wednesday, picked up by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
An aide to Ngige dismissed earlier claims that he had been kidnapped, confirming instead that he is being held by EFCC as part of ongoing investigations.
No formal statement has been issued yet by EFCC or any official agency confirming the arrest or the nature of the allegations against him. Investigations are reportedly still ongoing.
This development comes only weeks after gunmen attacked a convoy belonging to Ngige in Anambra State. A police officer was shot during the attack, with many others sustaining injury.
Ngige was not in the vehicle when the convoy was attacked and no arrest has been made by the time of filling this report.
