The Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC) has joined leading voices across the globe to chart a new path for public sector reform, aligning its mandate with Nigeria’s ongoing civil service transformation agenda.
In a statement on Friday, Deputy Director and Head of the Strategic Communications Directorate at the FRC, Bede Anyanwu, said the Commission’s active participation in the 2025 International Civil Service Conference held recently in Abuja demonstrates its commitment to fiscal transparency.
“The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and prudent fiscal governance in line with the Fiscal Responsibility Act (FRA) 2007,” Anyanwu stated.
Themed Innovation, Transformation, and Service Excellence, the high-level conference attracted over 5,000 delegates from more than 30 countries, serving as a platform for global dialogue on the future of civil service and public sector innovation.
President Bola Tinubu, who delivered the keynote address, called on civil servants to embrace innovation and accountability in service delivery, aligning with his Renewed Hope Agenda.
“Civil servants, you are not just the backbone of effective administration across borders but the very essence of it,” he said.
He emphasised the need for a data-driven and agile public sector, mandating a comprehensive personnel audit and skill gap analysis across the federal civil service.
“We must publish verified data assets within Nigeria and share them internationally. This will allow global benchmarking organisations to track our progress in real-time,” he added.
The FRC noted that this data-forward approach aligns strongly with its own mandate to enhance fiscal transparency and ensure government institutions uphold reporting standards.
Also speaking at the conference, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, urged civil servants especially the younger generation to “reimagine governance and embrace innovation with boldness.”
She highlighted achievements under the ongoing Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP 2021–2025), including the automation of civil service operations and the deployment of Service-Wise GPT, a homegrown AI solution.
According to the FRC, the conference offered a valuable opportunity to deepen inter-agency collaboration, align with global best practices, and strengthen its role in Nigeria’s public financial management architecture.
“The Commission remains committed to working with MDAs and development partners to ensure fiscal discipline, sustainable debt management, and improved service delivery,” Anyanwu said.
