GANDUJE FLAGS OFF CONSTRUCTION OF BICHI TOWNSHIP ROAD, ASSURES RURAL COMMUNITIES OF DIVIDENDS OF DEMOCRACY

Gov. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state today flagged off construction
of two kilometer Bichi township road, headquarters of Bichi local
government area, at the cost of N200 million, as well as water
reticulation system in the town at the cost N137 million.

The first project entails renovation and asphalting of the road, provision
of streetlights and drainages while the water project consist of pipe
laying from Watari water treatment plant to the town, provision of two
over head tanks in addition to construction and maintenance of water
pipeworks, including pumping systems and access chambers.

The governor explained that the government decided to embark upon the two
projects because of the strategic importance of Bichi local government,
which is among the oldest local government areas in the state.

“We are not unaware of the plight of people in this very historic town and
the support you have been giving to our administration. We are determined
to improving your living condition and that of all rural dwellers in Kano.
Ours is a government committed to ensuring even spread of projects in all
the 44 local government areas”, the governor maintained.

He pointed out that over 400 boreholes were drilled under the first phase
of the state rural water supply initiative while the drilling of 789
boreholes under the second phase recently commenced, as part of moves to
make life better for rural inhabitants.

Governor Ganduje also flagged off construction of the 12 kilometer Saye –
Babban Gida – Ganduje road project cutting across Bichi and Dawakin tofa
local government areas, expected to gulp about N150 million.

According to him, the project, which is under the state Integrated Rural
Development initiative tagged “Karkara Salamu Alaikum”, aims to achieve
broader access to markets and social services by the rural dwellers.

He pointed out that the government has commenced the construction of 500
kilometers out of the 1, 000 kilometers of remote roads to connect rural
communities to bring out food from their villages to urban markets and to
generally enhance economic and social endeavors.

The Chairman of Bichi local government council, Alhaji Sani Mukkadas,
expressed appreciation to the governor, assuring of their continued
support.
