Social media personality Emmanuel Obruste, popularly known as GehGeh, has criticised comedian Anita Onuoha, also known as Real Warri Pikin, over her response to the backlash surrounding her appearance on stage with singer Timaya.
GehGeh, on Monday, gave the comedian 24 hours to delete a video in which she defended her conduct and apologise to Nigerians.
He made the demand in posts on Facebook and X while reacting to the video, which came after Real Warri Pikin had earlier apologised to her husband, Ikechukwu Asuoha, and Nigerians who were offended by the incident.
“It’s a big shame. Real Warri Pikin, you need advice. I am giving you 24 hours to delete that video from your platform and apologise to Nigerians because that video is a direct attack on the ego of your husband,” GehGeh said.
He added, “If he won’t talk, I will speak for him.”
GehGeh also questioned the circumstances surrounding the stage performance, arguing that Timaya would not accept another man treating his wife in a similar manner.
“Even the Timaya that you did that thing with on stage won’t allow anybody to touch his wife like that,” he said, while linking the controversy to his views on marriage.
How the Controversy Started
The controversy began after a video from the 2026 African Muzik Magazine Awards in Dallas, United States, showed Real Warri Pikin joining Timaya on stage during his performance of Ukwu.
During the performance, Timaya lifted the comedian as part of the stage act, with the footage subsequently spreading widely across social media.
The incident triggered criticism from some Nigerians, who questioned the appropriateness of the interaction, particularly because Real Warri Pikin is married.
The comedian subsequently apologised to her husband and Nigerians who were offended by the incident.
She explained that she had been backstage enjoying Timaya’s performance when the singer called for a woman to join him on stage.
According to her, she responded spontaneously and did not know beforehand that he intended to lift her.
She said she initially resisted the stunt but eventually went along after Timaya urged her not to disrupt his performance.
Real Warri Pikin also acknowledged that her husband was unhappy about what happened.
Fresh Backlash
The controversy resurfaced after the comedian released another video addressing those who continued to criticise her despite her earlier apology.
In the video, she said she had done what she did “with my full chest” and described the stage as her “shrine” as an entertainer.
The response triggered another wave of reactions online, prompting GehGeh’s intervention.
The backlash has also extended to Timaya, whose real name is Inatimi Alfred, with some social-media users accusing the singer of going too far by lifting the married comedian during the performance.
Timaya has not publicly responded to the criticism over the incident.
Real Warri Pikin’s husband has also not issued a public statement on the wider controversy, beyond the comedian’s indication that he was unhappy with what happened.
Some social-media commentators have questioned why Asuoha has not publicly addressed the matter, while others have speculated that his silence could be linked to his wife being the family’s main breadwinner.
There is, however, no publicly established evidence that this is the reason for his silence.
Entrepreneur and content creator Ifedayo Agoro has challenged the criticism directed at Real Warri Pikin’s husband, questioning why social-media users expect the husband of a successful woman to publicly “discipline” her or leave the marriage whenever they disagree with her actions.
Agoro argued that outsiders could not know what happens within another couple’s marriage and should not assume that a husband who does not publicly condemn his wife is weak or being controlled.
The controversy has consequently expanded beyond the original stage performance, with the online debate touching on marriage, public conduct, gender expectations, celebrity relationships and the extent to which social-media users should intervene in the private affairs of public figures.
For now, Timaya and Ikechukwu Asuoha have not publicly responded to the latest wave of criticism, while GehGeh’s intervention has added another layer to the ongoing social-media controversy.
