Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has dissolved the State Executive Council with immediate effect, setting April 10, 2026, as the deadline for the completion of handover processes by affected appointees.
The decision, which signals early political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, was confirmed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Abubakar Ibrahim Njodi, while briefing journalists on Thursday, on the outcome of an extraordinary State Executive Council meeting held in Gombe.
Professor Njodi explained that the dissolution was part of a strategic move to allow political appointees and public office holders interested in contesting elective positions in 2027 to pursue their ambitions without conflict with their current roles.
According to him, the council, during the session, undertook a comprehensive review of the administration’s performance over the past two and a half years and rated its achievements positively across key sectors.
Conveying the governor’s directive, the SSG stated that all commissioners are to hand over the affairs of their respective ministries to Permanent Secretaries no later than Friday, April 10, 2026.
He further noted that all political appointees, including aides and other government officials intending to contest in the forthcoming elections, must resign their appointments on or before the stipulated deadline.
“The dissolution creates a level playing field for those who may wish to participate in the political process, while also ensuring that governance is not disrupted,” Njodi said.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya, he added, expressed appreciation to the outgoing members of the council and other affected appointees for their dedication, loyalty, and contributions to the administration’s achievements.
He commended their collective efforts in advancing the government’s agenda of sustainable development, good governance, and improved welfare for the people of Gombe State, wishing them success in their future endeavours.
Meanwhile, the governor is expected to reconstitute the State Executive Council in the coming days to ensure continuity in governance and sustain ongoing programmes and policies of the administration.
