Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has vowed to remain in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ; the recent lost of its members to the All Progressives Congress (APC), not withstanding.
The PDP is currently grappling with a wave of defections that has deeply shaken its structure and morale.
The exit of high-ranking members including governors, former governors, and state assembly legislators has triggered concerns about internal cohesion and raised serious doubts about the party’s preparedness for the 2027 general elections.
Party faithful are increasingly anxious, as these departures not only weaken its numerical strength but also cast a shadow over its strategic direction and leadership stability. As it faces the formidable task of regaining public trust and rebuilding its political base, questions linger about its ability to present a united front in the next electoral cycle.
At a strategic meeting with party leaders, coordinated by Sunday Bisi, Osun PDP chairman on Thursday night in the government house, the governor dismissed rumour of defection and described it a fake news.
“My people, party elders and chiefs, I declare before you today that I am not defecting to APC or any other political party.
“I remain in PDP. Ignore any fake news, ” Gov Adeleke said.
The governor’s remarks come in the wake of the defection of prominent figures from the party emptied into the ruling All Progressives Congress including governor of Delta State Sheriff Oborevwor, former governor of the state, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa, the entire state cabinet and state assembly.
The closed-door meeting, held at the Banquet Hall of the government house, was attended by PDP bigwigs, including Olagunsoye Oyinlola, ex-governor of Osun, who addressed the participants virtually, Adewale Egbedun, speaker of the house of assembly, and other members of the legislature.
In his remarks, Wale Oladipo, chairman of Imole Movement, said the PDP remains a home for those who genuinely care for the people of Osun.
Also speaking, Oluwole Alabi, the 1999 governorship candidate of the PDP and member of the PDP board of trustees, alongside Lasun Yusuf, former deputy speaker of the house of representatives, described the PDP as a vehicle for development and human empowerment.
Akanni Olohunwa, a member of the house of representatives, highlighted “the positive transformation occurring in Osun under the PDP’s leadership” and expressed confidence in the party’s success in future electoral contests.
