Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, is set to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Pointblanknews.com reported that the governor had concluded arrangements to join the APC, with the official declaration expected to take place at a later date to be announced.
The development was disclosed on Friday by the APC National Chairman, Dr. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, and the party’s Deputy National Chairman (South-East), Chief Emma Eneukwu, during the inauguration of the newly constituted Enugu State Caretaker Committee at the APC national secretariat in Abuja.
Chairman of the caretaker committee, Dr. Ben Nwoye, who confirmed the planned defection, revealed that Governor Mbah would officially declare for the APC at an event scheduled to hold in Enugu next week.
Nwoye further disclosed that the governor’s defection would be accompanied by all his political appointees, adding that the development signals the growing strength and influence of the ruling party in the South-East.
He also expressed confidence that more governors across the country would soon join the APC, describing the party as the only platform capable of fostering national unity and sustainable development.
It was learnt that the Enugu state APC executives were dissolved last week to pave the way for the governor and his team.
