Gov. Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta on Wednesday submitted a list of seven nominees for appointment as chairman and members of the Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy to the state legislature for confirmation.
The nominees are Chief T. J. O. Okpoko as Chairman, while Dr A. O. Ebinum, Mrs Philipa Longe, Chief A. P. Okpakpo, Brig-Gen. Brodrick Demeyeibo, retired, Col. Anthony Asielue, retired and Mr Churchill Oki would serve as members of the council.
The list was conveyed to the State House of Assembly through a letter which was read during plenary by the Speaker, Mr Victor Ochei.
According to the letter, Uduaghan said that the constitution of the advisory council on prerogative of mercy was in line with Section 3 of the Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy Law, 1999.
The Deputy Majority Leader of the House, Mr Johnson Erijo, moved a motion for the legislature to consider the letter.
The motion was seconded by Mr Friday Osanebi, representing Ndokwa East Constituency in the state House of Assembly.
The speaker then directed the nominees to appear before the house for screening on April 17.
Ochei also directed that the nominees should submit 35 copies each of their curriculum vitae to the office of the Clerk to the House on or before April 15.
