The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio was at the weekend honoured as the African ICT Man of The Year Award during the 8th Annual Nigerian Telecoms Awards organized by Nigerian Telecommunications News in Victoria Island Lagos.
This honour, the latest in the string of recognitions and accolades received by the Governor was described as a special by the organizers of the award who cited Governor Akpabio effort and investment in building and equipping the first e-library in West Africa, a major e-learning and knowledge development centre as the basis of their consideration. The award was presented to the Governor by Former Minister of Defence, Dr.
Bello Mohammed Haliru, who commended Chief Godswill Akpabio for transforming and repositioning the State
Governor Akpabio, who was represented at the event by the State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Aniekan Umanah, dedicated the award to the good people of Akwa Ibom State and thanked God for the opportunity and privilege given him to serve expressed appreciation to the organizers for independently recognizing the efforts of his administration and urged them not to relent in their efforts at promoting best practices in the ICT and telecoms industry.
The award ceremony attracted several dignitaries including Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Former Governor of Ogun State, Aremo Segun Osoba, Former Chief Execitive of Nigerian Communication Commission, Engr. Ernest Ndukwe, Engr Olawale Ige, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, and a galaxy of bigwigs in ICT & Telecoms industry.
