Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Wednesday announced the dissolution of the State Executive Council, ending the tenure of all commissioners and top government officials in his cabinet.
The dissolution was confirmed in a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi.
Before the announcement took effect, Governor Fubara presided over a valedictory session at the Government House in Port Harcourt, where he formally bid farewell to his outgoing cabinet members.
Addressing the commissioners, the governor expressed appreciation for their commitment to the development of Rivers State, noting that their contributions had been significant to his administration’s progress over the past two years.
“I sincerely thank you for your sacrifices, loyalty and the roles you played in shaping the direction of this government. It has been an honour working with you,” Fubara said.
The session coincided with Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, during which the governor used the opportunity to call on citizens to rededicate themselves to national unity and support President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to build a more peaceful, secure and prosperous country.
Governor Fubara, while pledging continued service to Rivers people, assured that the next phase of his government would be anchored on renewed commitment and stability.
The names of the outgoing commissioners include Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Zaccheus Adangor,  Commissioner for Works, George Kelly,  Commissioner for Education, Chinedu Mmom; and Commissioner for Finance, Isaac Kamalu, among others.
With the cabinet now dissolved, political observers say attention will quickly turn to the governor’s next move particularly the formation of a new executive team expected to drive the administration’s priorities for the remaining years of his tenure.
