A group, Save Aba, has carpeted some members of the lawmakers representing various constituencies in the state for their nonchalance over the deplorable state of roads in Aba, the commercial nerve centre of Abia state.
In a statement signed by the group’s Coordinator, St. Moses Ogbonna, the group said it is regrettable that Senators Enyinnaya Abaribe, Nkechi Nwaogu, Rep. Uzo Azubuike and Hon. Blessing Nwagba chose not identify with the problems of the people whose mandate they exercise.
The group which is organizing a rally tagged Weep for Aba, said it embarked on consultation of the representatives of the people at different levels over the pitiable condition of roads in the city.
According to the group, We embarked on consultation of our principal representatives. I approached Senator Mrs Nwaogu, the senator representing Abia central in the senate for intervention on the state of road in Aba. Her response was, Odi ire ma onye akara nkwe, meaning it is possible if the person advised, agrees. When I went to Senator Enyi Abaribe, the senator representing Abia South, he said that we should wait for when he becomes governor, he will rebuild Aba.
The group continued: Hon Uzor Azubuike , the member representing Aba North and South Federal Constituency said the problem of Aba is beyond any government, the statement read.
Save Aba group further stated that it contacted Hon. Blessing Nwagba representing Aba North state Constituency at the Abia state of House of Assembly, informing her of the Weep for Aba rally.
She called us immediately and informed us that she intends to present the state of Aba roads at the floor of the Abia House at plenary but was prevailed upon by her colleagues not to do so as it would appear an affront to the governor.
The group lamented that the Transition Committee Chairman of Aba South local government, Barr. Emeka Nwaogu insisted that Gov. Theodore Orji has repaired all the roads in Aba.
The TC Chairman told us that the governor has repaired all the roads in Aba and that we are simply ingrates. But when we challenged him to show us the roads that has been constructed other than the ones he patched using trowels and plum. The TC Chairman said we are even lucky, the group alleged.
Save Aba group maintained that with the emerging critical situation of Aba roads and the failure of our government at various levels to even pay the slightest attention on the plight of Aba people, it came to the conclusion that only God in heaven can solve our problems.
