The Atiku Haske Organisation has expelled Abba Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, following his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The group also rejected Abba’s directive ordering members and coordinators of the organisation to defect to the APC and mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda ahead of the 2027 election.
Abba, who recently announced his defection to the APC, had directed members of his political structure to immediately join the ruling party. He also announced the renaming of the group to the Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation.
However, the initiator and convener of the Atiku Haske Organisation, Hon. Mai Nagge Musa Bakari, dismissed the directive, insisting that Abba lacks the authority to determine the political direction of the organisation.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, Bakari said Abba is neither the founder nor the originator of the group and therefore has no locus to decide which political party or candidate it should support.
According to the statement, Abba was merely invited to join the organisation and has no legal or moral authority over its affairs.
“We founded the Atiku Haske Organisation and merely invited Abba to join the group.
He has neither contributed a naira to the activities of the organisation nor does he possess the certificate of registration of the group. We are therefore under no obligation to adhere to any directive issued by him,” the statement read.
Bakari further stated that Abba’s actions violated the organisation’s internal resolutions, values, and principles, leading to his expulsion.
“On the contrary, he is subject to our regulations, and having fallen short of expectations, he is hereby expressly dismissed as a member of the organisation,” the statement added.
The group clarified that it has no intention of defecting to the APC, stressing that it had collectively resolved to align with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) after exiting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“The Atiku Haske Organisation is not a party to, nor interested in joining Abba to defect to any other political party apart from the African Democratic Congress. What Abba has done is contrary to our collective resolution,” Bakari said.
Reaffirming its political stance, the organisation declared its continued support for Atiku Abubakar, describing him as the most credible candidate to address Nigeria’s governance challenges.
“We remain resolute in our conviction that His Excellency Atiku Abubakar is the best candidate to deliver good governance and alleviate the suffering of the masses,” the statement noted.
The organisation described Abba’s directive as “a nullity and dead on arrival,” and challenged him to establish his own political group if he has the capacity to do so.
“We urge him to desist from identifying himself as a member of our organisation,” the statement concluded.
