Popular Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage, has revealed that she would not mind becoming a second wife if she meets the right man.
Speaking on a recent episode of the American podcast “Lip Service”, the award-winning artiste said most of the men who approach her are either in their 50s or already married, a situation she described as limiting her chances of finding love.
“I’m like a sugar mama, but I don’t want to be. If I meet somebody who can really marry me, they are either in their 50s or already married. So, I don’t know. Maybe I can be a second wife. I think so. I could be a second wife,” she said.
The Somebody’s Son crooner added that she would not be a troublesome second wife, stressing that she respects the sanctity of marriage and would maintain peace with the first wife.
“I think I can get along with the first wife, and she’s going to love me because I’m not going to be troublesome. I’m going to be going on tours; I’m not really going to stress you. I’m very respectful, I know that you are the first wife and would accord you that respect,” she stated.
Her comment has since sparked mixed reactions across social media, with fans and critics sharing diverse opinions.
On X (formerly Twitter), some users hailed Tiwa Savage for being open-minded about modern relationships, describing her as “realistic” and “mature.” Others, however, criticised her statement, arguing that it undermines women who oppose polygamy.
One user wrote, “At least she’s honest. Most women secretly tolerate it; she’s just bold enough to admit it.”
Another said, “So Tiwa Savage is now promoting being a second wife? This generation has lost its values.”
Despite the controversy, several of her fans defended her, saying her remarks were lighthearted and made in a playful tone during the podcast.
Tiwa Savage, 44, remains one of Africa’s most celebrated female artistes, known for her hit songs, international collaborations, and numerous awards.
