The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, on Monday decorated eight senior officers newly promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs) at a ceremony held at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The promotion ceremony formally inducted the officers into the top echelon of the Nigeria Police Force leadership.
Addressing the officers, the IGP described the elevation as recognition of decades of service, professionalism and leadership within the Force.
“This ceremony is more than a symbolic adornment. Promotion to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police represents decades of dedicated service, professional excellence and proven leadership capacity,” Disu said.
He charged the newly promoted officers to provide strategic direction for the Force, strengthen discipline within the ranks and drive ongoing reforms aimed at improving policing across the country.
According to him, the DIGs must ensure that policing strategies remain responsive to Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
“You are expected to leverage your experience in intelligence-led policing, operational coordination and inter-agency collaboration while upholding accountability and inspiring confidence within the Force and trust among members of the public,” he added.
The IGP also expressed appreciation to Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support for the Police institution and commended the Police Service Commission for ensuring transparency and professionalism in the promotion process.
Disu further acknowledged the families of the promoted officers, noting that their sacrifices and encouragement had contributed significantly to the officers’ distinguished careers.
The newly decorated DIGs are Zachariah Fera Achinyan, Zango Ibrahim Baba, Isyaku Mohammed, Margaret Agebe Ochalla, Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, Fayoade Adegoke Mustapha and Umar Shehu Nadada.
With their elevation, the officers now join the IGP and the Force Secretary, Assistant Inspector-General of Police Olabode Adeleye Akinbamilowo, as members of the new Force Management Team.
Several dignitaries attended the ceremony, including the Chairman of the House Committee on Air Force, Kabir Alhassan Rurum; Director-General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), Temitope Ilori; former Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Danladi Kefas; former Chairman of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Jide Adeniji; and former Department of State Services spokesperson, Marilyn Ogar.
Also present were the Emir of Zazzau, the wife of former Inspector-General of Police Solomon Arase, Mrs. Arese Arase, and several retired senior police officers.
