The Imo State Government has donated a 14-seater Hyundai  Bus to the Correspondents’ Chapel of NUJ, Imo Council,  as part of its efforts to enhance the work of journalism in the state.

This is contained in a release from the chapel signed by its secretary, Mr Attan Agbakworu and made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Owerri.

The bus was presented to the chapel by the Chief of Staff (COS), Mr Eze Madumere, in the presence of the Commissioner for Information and Strategy at Government House, Owerri.

Madumere explained that the donation was in fulfillment of the state government’s promise to improve on the working environment and condition of correspondents operating in the state.

He said the chapel had partnered with the government under the leadership of Gov. Rochas Okorocha, noting that the donation was a practical appreciation to the chapel.

The COS urged the chapel members not to relent in their efforts at serving the state diligently, assuring them that the governor meant well for correspondents and all journalists in the state.

The Chairman of the Correspondents Chapel, Mr Chidi Nkwopara, who received the bus on behalf of the chapel expressed gratitude to the governor for the gesture.

He said it was the first time any administration in the state was donating a bus to the chapel and assured the COS of the continued support of the correspondents in the state.

Nkwopara, who was accompanied by his secretary, Agbakwuru, implored government not to relent in promoting the welfare of journalists to enable them serve the state better.

He promised that the chapel would put the vehicle into judicious use for the service of both the chapel and the state. (NAN)
