No fewer than 774 people were kidnapped, just as 222 were killed across Kaduna state from April to June this year, the state government has revealed.
Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, while presenting the Security Incidents Report for the second quarter of 2021, said out of the total deaths, Kaduna Central and South senatorial zones recorded 159 and 54 deaths, while Kaduna North senatorial zone recorded 9 deaths.
The commissioner attributed the deaths to kidnappings, banditry, communal clashes and other criminal activities.
Aruwan, however, said 8,553 cattle were rustled during the period under review.
Meanwhile, receiving the security report, in Government House, Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, said that unconventional approach is required to enable his administration to protect communities.
The governor noted that the Kaduna Central Senatorial District remains the most impacted by insecurity, going by the Security Incidents Reports.
The governor said: ‘’considerable investments in security are yet to manifest in the defeat or at least the considerable degradation of the criminals that menace our people. We have consistently supported the federal security agencies deployed to our state with logistics and equipment.
“We are pursuing this initiative, even as we nudge the Federal Government to launch simultaneous operations across all the seven states of the Northwest and Niger State” El-Rufai said.
El-Rufai lamented that ‘’it is clear to us that these considerable investments require structural changes in the security sector for their effectiveness”
