Insecurity Has No Political Affiliation Says Wike

by Our Reporter

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has called on all Nigerians to
support the Nigerian Armed Forces  to fight crime, because insecurity
affects everybody, irrespective  of political  affiliation.

Speaking  during a State Banquet in honour of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt
General Tukur Buratai at the Government House Port Harcourt on Thursday
night, Governor Wike said when there is no peace, governance  suffers.

He said: “Everybody  must  join hands to fight crime and insecurity.  This
is because insecurity  has no  political  affiliation.

“When there is no peace, there will be no governance.  When there is
insecurity, the revenue  of the state will be negatively  affected and it
will be  difficult  to  support the  security  agencies with logistics and
finance”.

He said that  the  security  agencies  are doing their best in Rivers
State as they have made  the state  one of the  safest places  to live and
do business.

The governor  said that Nigerians must learn how to commend security
agencies  for their service  to the country, pointing out that there is
nowhere  in the world where you don’t  have  security challenges.2

“I want to commend  the Chief of Army Staff  for  achieving  the great
feat of bringing the  Boko Haram insurgency  to the  barest  minimum “, he
said.

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel  commended  the military  for
their  service to the nation. He urged them to continue  to provide
security  in the Niger Delta.

In his remarks, Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Tukur Buratai said that
the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army has come to stay as it is programmed
to provide maximum security  for the core states of the region.

He lauded the  Rivers State Government  for appreciating the setting  up
of 6 Division  through  the special banquet.

He said: “Security is a collective responsibility.  We must work together
to achieve the best results.  Strong  inter-agency cooperation  is vital
to improving security “.

The Chief of Army Staff and the senior army officers  were  entertained
by traditional dancers and comedians.
