Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has called on all Nigerians to
support the Nigerian Armed Forces to fight crime, because insecurity
affects everybody, irrespective of political affiliation.
Speaking during a State Banquet in honour of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt
General Tukur Buratai at the Government House Port Harcourt on Thursday
night, Governor Wike said when there is no peace, governance suffers.
He said: “Everybody must join hands to fight crime and insecurity. This
is because insecurity has no political affiliation.
“When there is no peace, there will be no governance. When there is
insecurity, the revenue of the state will be negatively affected and it
will be difficult to support the security agencies with logistics and
finance”.
He said that the security agencies are doing their best in Rivers
State as they have made the state one of the safest places to live and
do business.
The governor said that Nigerians must learn how to commend security
agencies for their service to the country, pointing out that there is
nowhere in the world where you don’t have security challenges.2
“I want to commend the Chief of Army Staff for achieving the great
feat of bringing the Boko Haram insurgency to the barest minimum “, he
said.
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel commended the military for
their service to the nation. He urged them to continue to provide
security in the Niger Delta.
In his remarks, Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Tukur Buratai said that
the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army has come to stay as it is programmed
to provide maximum security for the core states of the region.
He lauded the Rivers State Government for appreciating the setting up
of 6 Division through the special banquet.
He said: “Security is a collective responsibility. We must work together
to achieve the best results. Strong inter-agency cooperation is vital
to improving security “.
The Chief of Army Staff and the senior army officers were entertained
by traditional dancers and comedians.
