The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a free, fair, credible and inclusive governorship election in Anambra State scheduled for November 8, 2025.
In a statement issued on Tuesday to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary, the umbrella body of all registered political parties stressed the need for transparency and fairness in the upcoming polls, urging INEC to provide a level playing field for all parties and candidates.
Signed by its National Chairman, Dr. Yusuf Dantalle, IPAC also appealed to politicians to focus on issue-based campaigns and avoid the politics of bitterness, which it said has continued to undermine Nigeria’s electoral process.
“We call for a free, fair, credible and inclusive governorship election in Anambra State. We urge INEC to provide a level playing field for all political parties and their candidates. Politicians should imbibe issue-based campaigns and eschew politics of bitterness that impedes the nation’s electoral process,” the statement read.
The council further charged political stakeholders to respect the sanctity of the ballot box, stressing that every vote must count to rebuild trust in the democratic system ahead of the 2027 general election.
Beyond electoral matters, IPAC used the independence celebration to commend Nigerians for their resilience, resourcefulness and determination to build a better nation despite political, economic and security challenges. It urged citizens to use the milestone as a moment for sober reflection and recommitment to national service.
“This is our chance to steer the ship of the nation to the path of rectitude, progress, development and advancement, and bequeath to future generations a peaceful, stable, just and prosperous society,” IPAC said.
Reaffirming its commitment to sustainable democracy, the council assured that it would continue to work with stakeholders to deepen democratic governance. “Together, we will build an enduring democracy. We are all in it together,” it added.
