Kano state governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has disclosed that his
administration aims to ensure that by the end of 2016, its total recurrent
expenditure is covered by the state’s internally generated revenue.
He also stated that the administration plans to ensure that by the end of
2017, the whole budgetary expenditure of the state is substantially
covered by the internally generated revenue of the year.
As this vision is actualized, a great percentage of the state government’s
share from the Federation Account is to be lodged into Future Generation
Account, which is to be deployed to provide qualitative education,
infrastructure and better healthcare delivery services”, the governor
asserted.
Ganduje announced this during the presentation of letters of appointment
to staff engaged by the government’s Technical Advisers on Improvement of
IGR and Consultants undertaking biometric data capture for civil servants
in the state.
He stated that the government is exploiting hitherto neglected sources of
revenue and making giant strides for harnessing the potentials of the
state towards improving the livelihood of the teeming populace.
This effort, he maintained, has become necessary given the fact that the
country’s oil revenue is dropping drastically and that this has affected
the ability of all tiers of government to deliver their campaign promises.
