The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has announced the death of two of its members following Sunday’s killing campaign by terrorists in the Dakata area of Kano, northern Nigeria.
CAN Chairman in Kano, Bishop Ransom Bello confirmed to Pointblanknews.com that the two that died at the early hours of Monday as a result of bullet wounds were blood brothers.
According to him, the deceased were members of the ECWA church who were shot while returning from Sunday service.
Bishop Bello said the parents of the slain victims have officially communicated report of the attack to CAN secretariat in Kano.
Pointblanknews.com recalls that few hours after Vice President Namadi Sambo left the Nigeria’s northern city of Kano, terrorists suspected to be members of the Islamic Boko Haram sect struck at Dakata, Hotoro and Sharada axis of the volatile city, killing three and injuring many.
Residents of the areas confirmed to Pointblanknews.com that several gun shots were heard as people ran helter-skelter for dear lives.
Namadi Sambo was in Kano to condole with Emir Ado Bayero over January 19 attack on his convoy inside the city, which claimed about seven lives and injured many.
Bayero had urged Nigerians to pray fervently over security challenges facing the country.
The Monarch also called for patriotism and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians irrespective of religious and ethnic affiliations.
Though officials say they had sketchy idea of the incident, spokesman of the Joint military Task Force (JTF), Captain Ikedichi Iweha confirmed the incident, saying security forces have already responded.
Four of the gun men are in the custody of JTF as at the time of filing this report, while several raids are being carried out by security forces.
The gun men came on tricycles at about the same time and launched attacks in the areas known as flashpoints, residents confirmed.
“I can only confirm to you that there were attacks in Sharada, Hotoro and Dakata; and three persons were killed. We are still compiling details of the attack, but our men have already taken control of the areas,” Captain Iweha said.
