The Kogi Government will soon reposition its civil service by using capacity-building strategies to make it the engine room of the state’s present administration.
The state’s Deputy Governor, Mr Yomi Awoniyi, made the disclosure at the grand finale of the 2012 Civil Service Week in Lokoja on Thursday.
He said the resolve was to enable efficient service delivery.
“The administration places high premium on the annual performance appraisal of workers,’’ Awoniyi said, describing them (workers) as the government’s engine room, especially in its transformation agenda.
He said only a vibrant civil service, with adequate technology-oriented training, could help the government to meet its objectives, in view of the challenges of globalisation.
In his speech, Dr Moses Atakpa, the state Head of Service (HOS), described the present civil service as very strategic to the government.
“I commend the efforts being made to improve the welfare of workers in the state,’’ he said.
Meanwhile, the state government has completed arrangements to go into partnership with the private sector in its refuse collection and disposal drive to ensure a clean and hygienic environment.
The Deputy Governor disclosed this at the inauguration of the 2012 National Environmental Sanitation Day in Lokoja on Thursday.
He said carpenters and mechanics would be relocated from the town as part of the state’s transformation agenda.
Awoniyi gave the assurance that the artisans would be relocated to suitable positions away from Lokoja metropolis.
“Environment is life, and it is the collective duty of all to protect the environment,’’ he said. (NAN)
