The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has declared controversial Nigerian entertainer, Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, wanted for alleged rape, cyber bullying, and cyber stalking.
This was made known by the agency on Friday, urging members of the public with credible information on his whereabouts to contact NAPTIP via its dedicated hotline and official channels.
According to the agency, the action follows multiple failed attempts to get Speed Darlington to respond to formal invitations for questioning.
The investigation stems from a viral video posted on his Instagram Live on May 27, in which he allegedly confessed to engaging in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl. The video sparked national outrage and prompted urgent calls for accountability.
NAPTIP stated that the entertainer was first summoned to appear before investigators on May 30 but failed to comply. While he later suggested June 26 as an alternative date, the agency maintained the matter required immediate attention and issued a revised deadline of June 2. He reportedly failed to appear on both occasions.
The charges brought against Speed Darlington are based on provisions of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015, and the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015. The offences include the alleged rape of a minor, cyber bullying, and the dissemination of harmful online content.
In his defense, the musician has claimed that the video in question was merely a promotional gimmick for a new song. He apologized for the controversy but denied any criminal wrongdoing.
Nevertheless, NAPTIP has insisted that his remarks amount to a serious admission and will not be dismissed as entertainment.
The agency reiterated its resolve to ensure justice is served, stating that it would collaborate with other security agencies to secure the artist’s arrest should he continue to evade lawful summons.
Citizens with useful information are encouraged to reach out to NAPTIP via its hotline at 07030000203 or through its verified social media platforms.
As of the time of filing this report, Speed Darlington was yet to issued an official statement in response to the warrant. His known phone numbers were unavailable too.
