The Kebbi State caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the National Assembly has dismissed as “baseless, unfounded, and politically motivated” a petition authored by former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, accusing Governor Nasir Idris of importing political thugs, foreign mercenaries, and engaging in clandestine arms deals.
Briefing journalists at the National Assembly in Abuja on Friday, members of the caucus said Malami’s petition, dated September 10, 2025, was nothing but a smear campaign designed to destabilize Kebbi and undermine the peace and progress recorded under Governor Idris.
The lawmakers, in a statement jointly signed under the banner of the Kebbi APC National Assembly Caucus, noted that Kebbi remains one of the most peaceful states in the country due to the deliberate investments in security and the governor’s commitment to collaboration with security agencies.
“These allegations are false, unfounded and politically motivated. They represent a desperate attempt by Mr. Malami, now leader of an imaginary opposition party in Kebbi State, to undermine the peace, progress and stability that our people currently enjoy under the leadership of Governor Nasir Idris,” the caucus declared.
The lawmakers accused Malami himself of being behind the use of political thugs during his recent visit to Birnin Kebbi, alleging that he mobilised hired youths from Sokoto, Koko, and Rara who attacked the APC state secretariat while chanting anti-government slogans.
“This incident alone speaks volumes about who is truly attempting to sow chaos and disrupt the peace of our state,” the caucus said.
They stressed that at no time had the Kebbi State Government or the APC family been linked to clandestine or terrorist activities, describing Malami’s allegations as reckless, particularly coming from a former chief law officer of the federation.
The caucus further urged security agencies not to be distracted by “partisan theatrics” but instead focus on genuine threats to national security. They also challenged Malami to substantiate his claims before relevant authorities.
“We reaffirm our unwavering support for all security agencies working tirelessly to keep our borders safe and our communities peaceful. We urge them not to be deterred by negative narratives designed to undermine their efforts,” the statement added.
Reiterating their loyalty to Governor Idris, the lawmakers pledged to continue working with the APC administration to deliver good governance and protect the peace and dignity of Kebbi State.
