The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Nigerian Navy and other security outfits operating in the Niger Delta, promising sustained collaboration and assistance in the region.
Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the Managing Director of the NDDC, gave the assurance while receiving the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ikechukwu Ogalla, and his team on Friday, 23rd May 2025, during a courtesy call at the Commission’s headquarters in Port Harcourt.
Highlighting the importance of synergy, Ogbuku stated, “There is a clear link between security and development. Our relationship with the security agencies is indispensable to achieving lasting progress in the Niger Delta.”
This was revealed in a statement issued by Seledi Thompson-Wakama, Director of Corporate Affairs at the NDDC.
“We understand that true development cannot be achieved in isolation. From the outset of our administration, we adopted the philosophy of ‘rewind to rebirth,’ moving from mere transactions to real transformation. This approach has fostered transparency and accountability in all our dealings, allowing us to build meaningful partnerships,” Ogbuku noted.
He emphasized that the Commission no longer adopts the practice of merely constructing and donating projects without utility.
“Every project we undertake must serve a clear purpose. Apart from infrastructure, we are equally committed to research that addresses the unique environmental, aquaculture, and agricultural issues in the region, ” he said.
Dr. Ogbuku further noted that all initiatives of the Commission are aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. “The NDDC is undergoing a positive transformation, driven by the President’s commitment to the region’s growth. His leadership has challenged us to deliver on our core mandate,” he added.
On his part, Vice Admiral Ogalla expressed gratitude on behalf of the Nigerian Navy for the Commission’s ongoing support, commending the NDDC for its impactful projects.
“The Navy is truly appreciative of the assistance we’ve received from the NDDC. Your infrastructural interventions have made a difference. We are open to deeper collaboration to ensure the safety and stability of the Niger Delta,” Ogalla said.
He also appealed to the NDDC to expedite the completion of certain ongoing projects meant for the Nigerian Navy, noting that the region remains the Navy’s main operational base.
