A tragic incident has left residents of Jibia Local Government Area, Katsina State in deep shock after a newly married man, Abubakar Dan Gaske Mai Nasara, was reportedly killed by his wife, Aisha Muhammad, barely three days after their wedding ceremony.
The incident occurred on Sunday, 23 November 2025, in the couple’s home, where Abubakar was said to have been asleep at the time of the attack. According to local reports, Aisha allegedly stabbed her husband, leading to his death before neighbours could intervene. She was subsequently arrested as investigations began.
Community members have expressed sorrow over the incident, describing the late Abubakar as a calm and well-respected young man. Many residents also voiced concern about a perceived rise in domestic tragedies involving newlyweds across northern Nigeria.
In recent times, several similar cases have been reported, many of them involving young women who are married off at an early age to older spouses, often with limited emotional preparation or support structures. Advocacy groups have repeatedly warned that such arrangements, especially without proper counseling or adequate family mediation, can create unstable domestic environments that sometimes escalate into violence.
Authorities have not yet released a detailed statement, but police confirm that investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the attack and the circumstances surrounding the couple’s short-lived marriage.
As the community mourns Abubakar’s death, the incident has renewed conversations about the need for strengthened marital counseling, improved conflict-resolution support for newlyweds, and continued advocacy around the wellbeing of young brides in the region.
