Niger Delta Crisis: ‘Military Approach Not Solution’

by Our Reporter

The Center for Peace & Environmental Justice (CEPEJ), a Niger Delta based

NGO, has called on all stakeholders to genuinely support President Buhari
to save our dwindling economy and devastated environment.

National Coordinator, CEPEJ Comrade Sheriff Mulade, while addressing
journalists in Warri, noted that force for force will cause more violence
and damage the already depleted economy.

He strongly appealed and advised security agents particularly the Nigerian
Army, the Navy and the DSS to support the Buhari dialogue process and halt
further threats of force to give confidence to the people.

Ït is pertinent to state that any attempt at invading, harassing,
intimidating and arresting innocent citizens in the region will be seen as
betrayed of trust from government security agents.

Mulade, however, expressed the belief that Nigerians would rise above the
level of individualistic, ethnic and myopic reasoning to a broader
perspective that will give a sense of belonging to all Nigerians.

He urged the government to show genuine commitment and seriousness towards
achieving positive results from the dialogue rather than making it a
political jamboree.

“I want strongly caution militants in the region particularly ABA to abort
their alleged plan to declare Niger Delta Republic which is not the
primary interest of the people but development and remediation of the
devastated environment”, he said.
