NIMET Boss Assures On Quick End To Current Harmattan Haze

by Our Reporter

Dr. Anthony Anuforom, Director-General, Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET), on Sunday in Lagos assured that the current harmattan haze being experienced in the country would subside in the next one week.

Speaking with aviation correspondents in Ikeja, Anuforom said the harmattan haze would however not negatively affect flight operations as a result of improved navigational aids installed in the country.

“A lot of new facilities from recent technology have been put in place by NIMET to ensure correct and verifiable meteorological services.

“These are in the area of adequate facilities to operate within the internationally-acceptable standards as obtained anywhere in the world,” he said.

The NIMET Director-General explained that the agency was working in conformity with stipulated international standards.

He said two upper air stations would be installed in the country to bring to seven operational upper air stations in the country to enhance accuracy.

“We actually have seven of them but two are yet to be installed. Within this quarter, we hope to increase it to seven upper air stations. So, the higher the density, the higher the accuracy.

“This is what this administration is doing in the spirit of the Transformation Agenda,” Anuforom said.

He commended the Ministry of Aviation for supporting the agency to realise its dream of providing the best service that would be second to none in the world.
