The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has extended warm felicitations to Christians across the country on the occasion of the 2025 Easter celebration, while also expressing deep sorrow over the passing of Pope Francis.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, the party described Easter as a solemn yet significant celebration, commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. According to Johnson, the occasion reaffirms the Christian belief in the defeat of death and the hope of eternal salvation.
“The resurrection of Christ is a cornerstone of the Christian faith. It is a time of reflection, renewal, and reaffirmation of the values of love, sacrifice, and redemption,” Johnson stated.
In a related development, the NNPP National Chairman, Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, expressed heartfelt condolences to the Catholic Church in Nigeria and around the world over the demise of Pope Francis, who reportedly passed away on Easter Monday.
Dr. Ahmed described the late pontiff as a true servant of God whose episcopal stewardship on earth was marked by humility, compassion, and unwavering devotion to the service of humanity.
“We duly commiserate with the Roman Catholic Church in Nigeria and worldwide on the passing of Pope Francis today in Rome. It is a painful exit for this exemplary pontiff, but the consolation is that Pope Francis left an indelible legacy of courage and love to the world, especially among the poor, a testament to his avowed humanity,” Ahmed said.
He noted that the timing of the Pope’s death during Easter lent even deeper spiritual significance to his passing, underscoring his life of service and faith.
“May his soul find peace with the Lord,” Ahmed concluded.
