Nollywood veteran actress, Bimbo Akintola, has revealed that remaining single and without children at the age of 52 was never part of her life plans.
Akintola, born in May 1973, spoke candidly in a recent interview about the emotional struggles that come with aging in the public eye.
According to her, society often misunderstands and judges women who do not fit into the traditional mould of marriage and motherhood.
“I didn’t choose this life. Things just didn’t happen the way I thought they would,” she said.
The actress noted that despite her successful career, the pressure from the public and media over her personal life has been relentless.
“People think because you’re in the spotlight, everything is perfect. But there are days of loneliness, days you question your purpose,” she added.
Her comments have sparked heated reactions across social media, with many Nigerians debating the expectations placed on women especially celebrities regarding marriage and children.
Akintola, however, emphasized that happiness and fulfillment come in different forms.
“Everyone’s journey is different. I have learned to accept my path and live fully,” she said.
Meanwhile, observers and mental health advocates have urged the public to respect personal choices in matters of love, marriage, and parenting.
They caution that trolling and shaming individuals for not meeting societal expectations could have damaging effects on mental health.
They also stressed that life can take unexpected turns and that love and fulfillment are not bound by age.
They argue that people should be encouraged rather than subjected to ridicule, adding that late love and alternative paths to happiness remain valid and achievable.
Despite the scrutiny, Akintola reaffirmed her commitment to living authentically and continuing to thrive both personally and professionally.
