Former Secretary to the Anambra State Government and Peter Obi’s campaign manager in 2023, Oseloka Obaze, has resigned from the Labour Party (LP) over unresolved leadership crisis.
Obaze in his resignation letter, addressed to the LP Chairman in Ochuche Ward 406, Ogbaru Local Government, expressed dissatisfaction with the way LP is handling it’s internal crisis. He also raised concerns over the just concluded LP governorship primary in Anambra state, saying that it was marked with irregularities.
The primary election, conducted by the faction led by Julius Abure, was won by George Moghalu.
Obaze however did not disclose his next political destination.
Obaze, a former diplomat, played a central role in Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign and was instrumental in the creation of the ‘Obidient movement.’
His exit raises fresh questions about the party’s stability in Anambra state.
Several prominent politicians including members of national and state assemblies have recently decamped from the Labour party following intractable leadership crisis.
While the party’s National Chairman Barr. Julius Abure is still laying claim to the leadership of the party after a Supreme Court Judgment that asked political parties to resolve its crisis internally using its constitution, another group led by Abia State governor, Dr. Alex Otti, after an expanded stakeholders meeting in Umuahia, constituted a 29-member caretaker committee led by Sen. Nenadi Usman to pilot the affairs of the party pending a National Convention.
Other political parties including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) are not insulated from the defection hurricane.
