Thousands of State and Federal Civil Servants in Ogun were on Monday held at a gridlock that stretched over four kilometres, making movement difficult.
The traffic jam, which started in the early hours of the day, was caused by an articulated vehicle and two other cars that broke down along the Presidential Boulevard leading to the State and Federal Secretariats.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the traffic build-up started at the entrance of the state’s secretariat complex, Oke-Mosan.
NAN reports that traffic had stretched to Kuto roundabout as at 8. 45 a. m., making most civil servants to lament over the development, especially their inability to reach their respective offices on time.
Some of them, who spoke to NAN on conditions of anonymity, said that they had been in the traffic for as long as one hour, while others said that they had spent at least 30 minutes.
“It is very strange to stay this long in traffic in Abeokuta, but what can we do, we just hope that our directors will forgive us for resuming late today,’’ a civil servant said.
While the newly-installed traffic lights at the NNPC junction were put off to accommodate the situation, official of Traffic Compliance and Enforcement (TRACE) had a busy day controlling traffic in the area. (NAN)
