The Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has cautioned Nigerians against a fraudulent, Artificial Intelligence-manipulated video currently circulating online, warning that it falsely features her image and voice.
In a public alert issued on Tuesday, Okonjo-Iweala clarified that she communicates only through X, formerly known as Twitter, and does not operate accounts on other social media platforms.
“Just alerting Nigerians. Another fake AI-manipulated video. The authorities are handling it. Just wanted to alert you to be aware of this,” she said.
She stressed that the viral clip is not authentic and confirmed that relevant security agencies are already investigating the matter.
The former Minister of Finance further urged the public to disregard any content bearing her name or likeness on platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, or WhatsApp.
“As I repeatedly said, I never post anything on Instagram, Facebook or WhatsApp. Anything emanating from these sources with my image is not from me. I only post on Twitter/X. I just don’t want people to be duped,” she added.
Okonjo-Iweala’s warning comes amid growing concerns over the use of artificial intelligence to create deceptive online content targeting prominent public figures.
