The Ondo State Government has distributed 250 hectares of farmland to farmers at the Ode-Aye mega farm in Okitipupa Local Government Area.
The Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Ademola Olorunfemi, said on Friday that the initiative was to empower the youths in the area to generate income for themselves.
A statement issued in Akure by the spokesman of the ministry, Mr Sunday Ajibola, quoted the commissioner as saying that the distribution exercise would last four weeks.
The commissioner said each of the youth would get two hectares of farmland to plant cassava with freedom to engage in inter-cropping of vegetables.
Olorunfemi, who assured the farmers of ready market for their produce, said government was ready to buy their produce through the Agric Input Supply Agency(AISA).
He, however, called on traditional rulers in the state to make available land for intending farmers to boost their morale. (NAN)
